TEAMS

Entering a team in the Canstruction® competition is the start of a remarkable experience. Create a three-dimensional sculpture using cans as building blocks. The food label becomes your colour palette; the can is your "pixel."

More than a team-building experience, Canstruction® offers a massive dose of creativity, problem solving and play for any group. Families and friends often share in the Canstruction® building experience, adding hands-on support and participation.

Oh... and did we mention this is for a terrific cause? There is nothing more satisfying than seeing thousands of cans from these massive sculptures de-canstructed, loaded on to trucks, and sent to fill empty food bank shelves.

Every team is led by a "Captain" (who is the main point of contact) and a designated design professional (architect, engineer, graphic designer, artist or digital artist, etc).

2008 THEME "BOOKS & BYTES"

Our 2008 theme encourages teams to draw inspiration from favourite works of fiction, bigger-than-life biographies, or inspiring literary figures. No page should go unturned in the fight against hunger!

Or you can take a "byte" out hunger by depicting a favourite character or scene from the digital world.

Adherence to the theme is optional — all design ideas are welcome... as long as they are in good taste!

AWARDS

Canstruction® teams vie for awards in 5 National and 8 Local categories.

Winners of National Awards go on to compete internationally (via photography) in the same category won locally. An esteemed panel of judges chooses the "best of the best" at the annual Society of Design Administration convention in the USA each year.

With over 100 Canstruction® cities across North America, winning a national award, or even making it to the "final five" is a remarkable feat! Vancouver sculptures have won 4 National awards, and been short listed numerous times since 2003.

Local awards honour design excellence using criteria established by the organizing committee for local recognition, as well as those awards sponsored by Vancouver-based professional organizations.
